Phone full? Free space without deleting your memories

How to see what uses storage, keep a safe copy of photos and videos, and free the phone only when you can open them again.

Photos and videos take most of a phone’s storage. You do not need to delete memories to free space: make a recoverable copy first, verify it, then clear the device.

1. See what uses space

On Android or iPhone open Settings and find Storage. Note how much Photos, Videos, and Apps use. That tells you whether photos are the issue or something else (cache, WhatsApp, downloads).

2. Separate what matters

Scan recent albums or folders. Mark what you must keep: family, trips, photographed documents. You do not need perfect organisation yet; just avoid blind deletion.

3. Make a copy off the phone

Upload those photos and videos somewhere you can open from another device (computer or tablet). Use Wi-Fi and keep the phone plugged in for large uploads. Note the folder or album where you saved them.

4. Confirm you can recover them

Before deleting anything on the phone: open two or three random files from the other device. If they look fine, the copy is useful. If something fails, do not delete yet.

5. Free space calmly

When the copy is verified, remove from the phone only what is already saved. Empty the photos app trash if it has one. Check storage again: you should see free space without losing memories.
