Day 22 - Target customer: SMEs fit better than locked-in individuals
After several meetups, the customer who gets the most from KM0 is the small business: migration and domain. Individuals stay stuck in the phone.
After several team meetups with very different people, the conclusion is clear: KM0’s best target customer is not “anyone with a phone”, but the small business. Individuals remain welcome; onboarding and support effort go first to whoever truly has to migrate.
Why SMEs
A small company usually arrives with a concrete problem:
- Needs domain email (
@company), not only a personal Gmail. - Wants shared folders with team permissions.
- Often also moves web or DNS and wants one counterpart.
- Asks for help with the handover: export Drive/OneDrive, create accounts, keep the workday moving.
There KM0 offers what pure self-serve does not: accompanied migration, public pricing, and EU data (Hetzner · Falkenstein). More teams also want to stop depending only on services outside Europe. Not a slogan: risk criteria, client contracts, and operational calm.
On the home page the SME band already says it: about ten accounts, mail + cloud, and we help you migrate. This post locks commercial focus there.
Why individuals are so hard
A normal person does not “choose” Google or Apple every morning. The phone arrives full:
| Layer | Apple (iPhone) | Google / Android |
|---|---|---|
| System account | Apple ID almost required | Google account for Play Store |
| Photos | iCloud Photos by default | Google Photos backup |
| Mail and calendar | Mail + iCloud | Gmail, Calendar, Contacts |
| Files | iCloud Drive | Google Drive |
| Messaging | iMessage, FaceTime | RCS + Google ecosystem |
| Purchases and pay | App Store, Apple Pay | Play Store, Google Pay |
| Passwords | iCloud Keychain, passkeys | Google manager, passkeys |
Add WhatsApp (the social graph does not move easily), OneDrive if you use Windows, or Maps and Chrome history. Changing cloud or mail means fighting defaults, notifications, and “where are my photos?”. Staying put is rational.
At work, the job does not depend on iMessage or phone photo backup: it depends on domain, mailboxes, and team folders. That is when calling someone makes sense.
What does not change
We still offer Cloud and Mail to people and families (pick your scale). We invent no conversion rates and blame nobody who stays on Big Tech. We only prioritise where human accompaniment makes the difference.
Close
If you are an SME and want to migrate mail, cloud, or domain without sales theatre, see pricing or write to us. On day 23 we cover the first company client who already did it: econsultants.

- Day 29 - One KM0 login: Keycloak for Cloud web, desktop, and mobile Cloud in the browser, the OpenCloud desktop client, and the mobile apps now share the same KM0 sign-in. Why we moved, what to do, and links to the new tutorials.
- Day 28 - A cleaner front door for public HTTPS We put a reverse proxy in front of the public edge so TLS and routing sit in one place, with a maintenance path ready, while Cloud URLs stayed the same.
